Each month during the academic high school year, INS will recognize one Senior high school individual (grades 9-12) as the INS Superior Student of the Month. This program will be launched as a promotional radio broadcast sponsorship in conjunction with Learfield Communications network of Iowa radio stations. Spots will be aired across the state on 61 Radio Iowa and 53 Brownfield stations.
The program will run during the academic school months of:
Fall semester – September, October, November, December
Spring semester – February, March, April, May
Winners will be chosen each month from the qualified pool of nominees. A panel of three, third-party, independent judges outside the state of Iowa will select the winner based on achievement, growth, volunteerism, overcoming challenges, being a positive influence, and/or making a difference in one or more of the following categories:
Nominations will be collected online via a dedicated Web site: www.INSSuperiorStudent.com. Nominations must be made by a community leader, teacher, counselor, advisor, school leader, or other adult who has experienced understanding and involvement with the nominee. The student accomplishments must have been fulfilled within the last 18 months of the nomination. The nominator will be required to validate the online entry by calling the number given upon completion of the nomination form to leave a unique confirmation number and a :60 recorded message that verbally confirms in their own words the basis for their nomination entry. By calling the given number and providing the confirmation number along with your recorded message, the nominator is consenting for Learfield Communications and INS to use their voice for the promotion of the INS Superior Student of the Month Award.

The nominator agrees to have any elements of their submission; written claims, voice recording, name of nominator, and recipient utilized for program promotion, marketing, and press release materials. By checking the “I have read and agree to the Terms and Conditions” button at the bottom of the online nomination form, you agree to not hold Iowa Network Services or Learfield Communication liable for any information you submitted during the nomination process that may end up proving to be incorrect or falsified. The information you provide is coming solely from the nominator and the student as had no participation in the nomination process. The nominator accepts responsibility for the accuracy of the submission.
Nominations will be taken anytime during the given semester. Selections will be made monthly during the third week of each broadcast month. Nominations will carry over from month-to-month, until the end of each academic semester. Students may be re-nominated at the beginning of a new semester.
The INS Superior Student of the Month will be announced on air during the fourth week of the month. An INS/Learfield Communications representative will attempt to notify and congratulate the winning recipient in advance of the radio announcement. Individuals who nominate a winning student may be required to participate in a short telephone interview to discuss the winning student’s qualifications. Portions of the nominators recorded voice message and/or interview as well as the name of the INS Superior Student of the Month Award recipient for that given month will be used as part of the INS Superior Student radio announcement, will be posted online, and may also be used in a state-wide press release.
In addition to the radio announcement, the INS Superior Student of the Month Award recipient will be presented with a congratulatory plaque and a $250 Savings Bond. From the time INS notifies the recipient, the winning student will have 60 days to verify their identity and claim the Savings Bond at Bankers Trust.
This program is completely funded by Iowa Network Services. We encourage you to please nominate a deserving student and to share this award program with others. The success in acknowledging an INS Superior Student of the Month is dependent on adult leaders submitting nominations.
